Writing to the Child
This course is designed to transform the way professionals record and communicate with children living in residential care. Participants will explore the importance of therapeutic language and how words can shape a child’s sense of identity, belonging, and self-worth. We’ll examine the impact of written records on both the child and their future, ensuring that every entry reflects care, respect, and understanding.
Through interactive sessions, you’ll learn:
• Why we record: the purpose and long-term significance of documentation.
• What we record: focusing on meaningful, child-centred information.
• How to practice: hands-on exercises to develop confidence in writing directly to the child.
• Understanding labels: recognising and challenging language that may stigmatise or limit.
By the end of the training, you’ll be equipped to write in a trauma informed way that empowers children, honours their experiences, and contributes to a therapeutic environment where every word matters.
