Give them a place that’s theirs, with the support you deserve.

If you’re already fostering, you’ll know what a difference a calm, consistent home can make. Many carers choose to transfer to us for our therapeutic, trauma-informed support and a team they can rely on, without losing what already works for them.

Why carers transfer to Break

Building confidence through trauma-informed training

We invest in your learning and growth. You’ll have access to tailored training, including therapeutic parenting and trauma-informed practice, alongside ongoing professional development. This ensures you feel confident, skilled, and supported in meeting children’s complex emotional and developmental needs.

Smaller case loads equals more support

All our social workers have small caseloads, giving you, your child and your family the time, attention and personalised support. This means more meaningful guidance, stronger relationships and a team that genuinely understands and responds to your needs when you need it.

Every penny reinvested in you and the children you care for

Because we’re a not‑for‑profit charity, we can reinvest our funding into foster families and children. This allows us to provide high-quality care, support, innovative training, and resources that help carers feel confident and equipped in their role.

How transferring works

Our team will give you more details on how the transfer process works, but here’s a quick guide:

The transfer process

Transferring to Break is designed to be smooth and supportive. After your initial confidential chat and deciding to move, you’ll notify your current agency and start an updated assessment, including background checks and a panel review. Depending on complexities, for many carers, this process takes around four to six months from start to finish, with Break’s team guiding you and prioritising the child’s wellbeing throughout.

Your privacy is our priority

We understand that transferring from another agency is a personal decision. All conversations and information you share with Break are treated confidentially, handled with care, and shared only with your permission. Our team ensures your privacy and reasons for transferring is respected throughout the process.

Child-focused support

When a foster carer transfers to Break, the child’s wellbeing is our top priority. We work closely with the child, their current carers and social workers to ensure the move is carefully planned, supported and as smooth as possible. Ongoing guidance helps the child feel safe, understood and settled throughout the transition.

Curious about transferring? We can talk through how joining Break could give you extra support while keeping what works for you.

"When we started having conversations with the Break. I knew instantly that they got me. They understood what we needed and how we could better support Olli. It’s been life changing and I can’t rate the team highly enough."
