Getting help for your mental health usually starts the same way: a referral, a letter, an appointment with someone you've never met. And for some people, that works.

But when you’ve had a difficult childhood and grown up in care, being asked to trust a therapist you've just met can be the hardest thing anyone could ask. Especially if in the past, adults let you down.

Healing starts with trust, and trust takes time.

Break's Emotional Wellbeing Service starts differently. Before our therapists expect a young person to talk about the hard stuff, they spend time earning trust and meet them where they feel comfortable. And they listen, really listen.

"For the first time, I have felt truly seen. Having my experiences validated and my emotions cared for at this level has been life-changing."

- Alyse, Break young person

Right now, many young people who need this approach are waiting.

We need your help to raise £30,000 so more young people can receive this life-changing therapy next year.

Are you a business? If you can donate £300 and get us 1% closer to our target, we’re offering complimentary membership to our Supporter Network as a thank you.

Because no two young people are the same, neither is the support they receive.

Each young person starts with 12 therapeutic sessions, but healing doesn't always fit neatly into a timetable. If they need more time, we can be there.

Likewise, if therapy reaches something painful and a young person needs to pull back, our therapists stay alongside them, helping them move forward at a pace right for them.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Break understands it's trust, flexibility and time that helps therapy to work.

There are more young people in need of this unique approach, but that's only possible with your help.

Donate to Break this Christmas

The funds raised through this campaign will be used to support Break's therapeutic service. Funds raised above the target will be used by the charity where they are needed most. To protect young people's privacy, some identfying details and images have been changed or recreated. The stories, quotes and videos shared are real experiences.

A gift in your Will, of any size, helps ensure that no young person has to face leaving care alone.
