Extra-Familial Harm and Children Missing from Care

Participants will:
• Explore typical adolescent development and the push and pull factors that might contribute towards a child going missing.
• Develop a clear understanding of the many factors which are known to heighten adolescent vulnerability and potential risk.
• Consider the messages arising from Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews relating to children missing and the impact of these messages on practice.
• Recognise and respond to interaction between harm experienced by adolescents including Child Sexual Exploitation, Child Criminal Exploitation and adolescents going missing.
• Explore the difference between children being absent and going missing and the balance between ensuring safety and maintaining a trusting relationship with the child by not over reporting.
• Develop best practice in relation to children missing from care adolescents who have been groomed or radicalised.
