Adult Safeguarding
By the end of this session participants should:
• Be able to define the term “adult at risk” (formerly a “vulnerable adult”)
• Understand the importance of the Care Act 2014 Statutory Guidance for Safeguarding,
as well as other relevant legislation such as the Mental Capacity Act 2005
• Be able to list and give examples of the ten main types abuse
• Understand how adults may be exploited, in person or online, including issues such as
“cuckooing”, “county lines” and “mate crime”
• Appreciate the importance of preventing abuse from happening, as well as dealing with
it if it does happen
• Know where to find the policies and procedures that are relevant to their own
workplaces in relation to Safeguarding
• Be confident in recognising some of the common symptoms which indicate that abuse
might be occurring
• Be able to take actions in their own workplaces to reduce the risk of abuse occurring
• Understand the importance of recording: what, when and how
• Know how to respond if an adult at risk makes a disclosure of abuse, or if there is any
suspicion that an adult may be being abused
• Know how to support the alleged victim, as well as how to deal with the alleged abuser
• Understand the importance of the concept of “Making Safeguarding Personal”
