Are you already a foster carer but looking to move to Break? It’s a really straightforward process and our experienced team are here to make sure your transition is as smooth as possible.

Every foster carer has the right to transfer to another fostering agency should they wish to. It may be that you’re finding you’re not getting enough support from where you currently are, or there may have been changes that mean your needs aren’t being met, or you’re simply looking for a different fostering experience.

Transferring is easier than you may think. Whether you’re already caring for a child or not, and you want to move to us, we’ll be with you every step of the way and our main priority will always be the young person.

“The transition itself was really very easy and quick to do. I just sent an email to say this is my intention to move. We had a meeting, a date was set and it was job done! All in all, the process took four months from start to finish including background checks.”

Break do things differently

  • Our foster carers are part of our team. We value and respect your knowledge of the child.
  • Our social workers have small caseloads so they can give you and the child the time and support you need.
  • As a small, non-profit service, our foster carers say they appreciate that they know everyone on the team and we all know the children.
  • Our fostering service is co-produced with our foster families and children. We care and act on what foster families really need.
  • Break offers a competitive fostering allowance so you can focus on the child
  • Break recognise long-service with extra financial benefits.
  • Our in-house therapeutic parenting practitioner supports you based on need, rather than limiting support to a certain number of sessions

How to transfer

You will need to inform your existing agency of your intent to move, and once this has been actioned, we will start the process of issuing background checks to be made to make sure that children and young people will be safe in your care.

We will work with you to complete an updated assessment whilst your checks are underway to prevent delay. Once all checks and your assessment are completed your assessing social worker will present you to panel for a final recommendation.

If you are currently caring for a child(ren), the process will also include meeting with their social work team to ensure the move is right for the child(ren), and to plan the move to Break in such a way that the child(ren) experiences minimal disruption. The wellbeing and experience of the child(ren) will remain at the forefront our minds.

We will ensure that the whole process is as smooth as possible for you and everyone in your family.
