Norfolk Cycling Events: Supporting Break as our charity partner

8 Apr 2021

Louise Willmot and her partner Matt set up Norfolk Cycling Events in 2017 after Matt had been co-owner of another successful cycling company ‘Cycle Sportives UK’. She speaks about the Sportives and why they chose to support Break through these fantastic cycling events.

"Matt and I run Norfolk Cycling Events (NCE) together alongside our ‘day jobs’ so we are usually working on the cycling events in the evenings and weekends. We wouldn’t be able to do all we do without the help and support from our family and friends - from childcare and cake baking to marshalling and event catering. It’s definitely a family affair! Our two young children even come along to events to help give out medals!

It was important for us to establish a partnership with a local charity. We chose Break because of the amazing work they do in and around Norfolk to support vulnerable children and their families. I had a personal and professional interest in Break’s work due to my ‘other’ job away from NCE. We have had the pleasure of welcoming volunteers from Break at all of our Sportives who have often helped to give out medals at the finish line, cheering in the riders. We have set a fundraising target of £10,000 which we look set to not only achieve this year but will exceed. We have been delighted that in previous years money we have raised for Break has gone straight to the young people’s service who have come along to volunteer at our Sportives. We give Break 5 free places on each of our Sportives. In 2021 that is 50 available places for riders to fundraise for Break. Alongside this we also have a donation button on our website and have fundraising stalls at the event centres.

Like many other small businesses, 2020 was a challenging year for us that saw us postponing all but one event. We continue to make changes to our events in 2021 to ensure all our Sportives are covid safe but also remain the friendly, professionally run Sportives our riders enjoy. We have worked very hard behind the scenes ahead our 2021 events and we look forward to a successful year of reconnecting with our regular riders and also welcoming new cyclists.

Our cycling Sportives offer something for everyone! From our 10 mile family / beginner rides on quiet country roads to our Round Norfolk Epic which sees 300 cyclists riding a 200 mile circuit of Norfolk in 1 day! Everyone receives a friendly welcome, mechanical support, a bespoke finisher’s medal and well stocked feed zone with yummy treats!"

The next NCE event is 'The Spring Classic' is on the 9th May. The route follows some beautiful countryside around the village of Swanton Morley.
