Grrreat last chance to see dinos at 'Farewell for Now' event at Norwich Cathedral this October half term

13 Sep 2021

Dino hunters get ready, Break has announced that its GoGoDiscover T.rex sculptures won’t be heading into extinction just yet and will be heading to Norwich Cathedral for a special family celebration event to celebrate Dippy the Diplodocus’s last week at Norwich Cathedral at October Half Term.

This is an exciting opportunity for families to see the stunning and eye-catching T.rex sculptures in the beautiful grounds of Norwich Cathedral and see Dippy the Diplodocus on the final leg of his tour. The special ‘Farewell for Now’ event, in partnership with Break and Norwich Cathedral, will take place between Sunday 24th October and Sunday 31st October 2021 and aims to raise money for Break, so that it can continue to provide lifelong support to children and young people in care, on the edge of care or leaving care.

The Farewell For Now event coincides with the final week of Dippy the dinosaur’s 15-week stay at Norwich Cathedral. More than 100,000 people have so far visited the Natural History Museum’s iconic Diplodocus cast at the Cathedral and the Dippy on Tour: A Natural History Adventure exhibition runs until Saturday 30 October. Dippy on Tour is a free exhibition that has been brought to Norwich Cathedral and visitors across the UK by the Natural History Museum in partnership with the Garfield Weston Foundation and supported by Dell EMC and Williams & Hill. Norwich Cathedral is the eighth and final stop on the tour and Barratt and Cooke is the regional sponsor for the exhibition.

Peter Marron, GoGoDiscover Project Manager, said: “This year’s GoGoDiscover trail has been huge fun so far and it’s not over just yet. This is a brilliant opportunity for those who haven’t managed to meet Dippy or see the T.rex, or who want to return and see them all in one place in the spectacular setting of Norwich Cathedral. It will be a dino-tastic opportunity of discovery for all the family during Half Term and is another chance for us to raise vital funds for Break. A big thank you to Norwich Cathedral for allowing us to bring our T.rexciting friends back to see the iconic Dippy for the last time and to our amazing Break volunteers who will be greeting and looking after everyone at the special event.”

The Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Jane Hedges, said: “It has been brilliant to see so many people of all ages enjoying visiting Dippy at the Cathedral this summer and also following Break’s GoGoDiscover trail of T.rexes around Norwich. Both have brought such joy and excitement to the city, and so it will be wonderful to welcome all the GoGo dinosaurs to the Cloister for the final week of Dippy’s visit in October. Break does such important work in helping young people in need and we are delighted to help support their extremely worthy cause.”

While the GoGoDiscover Farewell For Now event is free to attend, with no booking required, there is a suggested donation of £2.50 per person towards Break, the East Anglian children’s charity who deliver the GoGoDiscover event in partnership with Wild In Art.  All proceeds from this T.rexciting farewell event will go directly to Break.

The GoGoDiscover 2021 T.rex who will be at Norwich Cathedral to say goodbye to Dippy include  Prideasaurus, B-Rex, T.Pot, Afternoon Tea-Rex, Hawker, Doctasaurus, Hulkasaurus, 60 Million Years, Tigrasaurus, SNAP!, Dino Hunter, Lava Land, Rex, The Junkasaurus Rex, Do you think they saurus?, Eyela the T.spex, Automotosaurus, Where’s Rexy, Lost Holmes and Tyra-Norvy-Saurus.
