Ducktastic Grand Norwich Duck Race

This annual event had the best ever day on the River Wensum

Wow what a great event! Thank you to the weather, the wonderful volunteers, the Ribs of Beef, Norfolk Paddle, the Broads Authority and the Lord Mayor of Norwich who set everything in motion and stayed when we said he could go! The wonderful people who had stands with great food and drink and lots of things for the children to do. But most of all to the people who descended on the river banks to cheer the ducks on.

The Grand Norwich Duck race held its 6th event on the River Wensum from St George's Bridge to Fye bridge. It started when Break was charity of the year for Norwich Inns and the Ribs suggested a duck race for their fundraising and we have kept it going - huge thanks to Roger and Anthea Cawdron for their support ever since.

The parade of the decorated ducks drew a large crowd on St George's Bridge, followed by the release of the small ducks to great cheers and the lowering of the large decorated sponsored ducks, some of whom spent the entire time on their sides! But we had a winner 'Black Swan' decorated by Sally Adams @theduckorator and sponsored by the Alan Boswell Group.

Thank you to everyone for supporting this event and please come to the auction on 14 September at the Maids Head Hotel, Norwich from 6pm. We are sure you have your favourites!

Liz who works for Break had the day off and brought her family with her and said "How lovely to be there with my family. Noah who is just two and a bit loved it and was asked to throw the test duck in which he loved. Having seen this from the other side of the fence it was the best free family day out for us. The atmosphere was great, given there were so many people there, so much to do and see and pit stops along the way. I so enjoyed something I have worked on for years from the other side!"
