Volunteer Mentors

Break operates a ‘Leaving Care Mentoring Scheme', recruiting committed volunteers who have a few hours to spare every couple of weeks to support young people who have recently left local authority care.

These young people will have experienced rejection, abuse or disruption in their lives and will come from a variety of backgrounds, which include foster placements, kinship placements (extended families), own tenancies and some even live with a parent.

With our encouragement through this scheme of volunteer mentors and the continued assistance of the social care
professionals, we can provide a network of support that will help these young people adapt to living independently.

We are always looking for individuals who are:

  • able to relate to young people
  • able to listen and advise
  • acceptiing people as they are
  • open to learning about themselves
  • able to inspire, encourage and motivate young people

You could help a young person to;

  • get settled in a new home
  • get back into education or find employment
  • build up their confidence and life skills
  • manage their money
  • go to new places

Mentoring a young person leaving care is not a cure-all.  By giving their time a volunteer mentor can make an enormous difference to a young person's life.
