Children's Homes

Break provides residential child care at six homes throughout Norfolk, including one specialist home for children with profound disabilities.

We provide secure homes for children who are no longer able to live within their own families and they are characterised by being small four or five bed residential properties where the emphasis is on creating an alternative family environment.

All of our homes offer long-term care to children, usually between 10-17 years old who will all have experienced rejection, abuse or disruption within their families and many will have had several foster placements which have broken down.

Our high standards of care echo the outcomes enshrined in the ‘Every Child Matters' white paper and permeate every aspect of the support we provide for our young people, ensuring that they are healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and attain economic wellbeing.

Break's children's homes have been particularly successful in offering stability to difficult and damaged young people. There have been real successes with young people achieving in learning and being ready to move into further education or employment. 55% of our young people have maintained a stable placement at Break for more than one year, 45% over two years and it is not unusual for a young person to stay at BREAK for four years or more. 83% of all our young people also have had continued access to full time education.

The basic running costs of all our children's homes is met through service level agreements with Norfolk County Council Children's Services.

Other ‘added extras' such as computer equipment, kitchen white goods, bedroom furniture, storage facilities, etc, can be funded by voluntary income generated through a variety of fundraising activity.
