Break offers a choice of four locations providing short breaks and holidays (click to read more about each):

Golden Bay Village, Westwood Ho! for self catering holidays

Morley House, Kings Lynn, Norfolk for weekly boarding and short breaks

Nelson Lodge, Long Stratton, Norfolk for short stay residential short breaks

Rainbow, Sheringham

We are sorry to inform you that the Rainbow Holiday Centre will be closing at the end of September 2012.  Holidays are still available until that date so please contact the Booking administrator on 01263 822161 for availability.

Sheringham, Norfolk, provides fully inclusive holidays and short breaks for up to ten children or ten adults with learning disabilities, including those with associated physical disabilities and high level care needs.

Staff provide 24 hour care for guests alongside a programme of activities and outings to local attractions.

Many of our guests return to Rainbow time after time for their holidays and we also have new guests arriving all the time.

The house consists of a large downstairs area with lounge, games room, dining room, soft play room and sensory room for guests to use. Each guest has their own room with washing facilities so that they have a space to call their own.

We have a full range of manual handling equipment and there is a lift giving full access to the first floor.

Break pays 50% of the full cost per night/week.  Prices for a week's stay 2010/11 are as follows:

  • High costs £1910 (you pay £975, £139.29 per night)
  • Medium costs £1700 (you pay £870, £124.29 per night)

Golden Bay Village, Westwood Ho!

We have two purpose-built self-catering chalets at the Golden Bay Holiday Village overlooking beautiful Bideford Bay on the north Devon coast. There is wheelchair friendly access from the holiday village leading directly down to two miles of wonderful golden sandy beach.

Our self-catering chalets provide an opportunity to enjoy a low cost traditional 'bucket and spade' holiday and are an ideal base from which to explore this delightful area.

The smaller chalet sleeps 4 and the larger chalet sleeps 7/8 both furnished to a high standard. The kitchens are well-equipped and fitted with a microwave, oven, hob and fridge freezer. Lounge areas have comfortable seating and television, while bathrooms are fully fitted with bath, shower and WC.

You are welcome to book a holiday if you

  • Have a family member with a disability or other special need
  • Are on a low income

Please note that this is an independent holiday and no care support is included

Prices range from £140 for a week's stay depending on the size of the chalet and the time of year.

Morley House, Kings Lynn

Morley House is a purpose built home opened in January 2010 for children and young people aged between 5 and 18 years of age. Like Nelson Lodge the service is for children with learning disabilities, autism, challenging behaviour and associated physical disabilities.  It has been carefully designed to blend in with the surrounding properties but has been fully set up with disabled children/children with special needs in mind.

The aim is that Morley House will provide comfortable, homely accommodation of a high standard for six children/young people at any one time.  It is extremely well equipped to enable children to enjoy themselves and develop a range of skills.

Staff work closely with the families, schools and other professionals to ensure that there is consistency between everyone involved.  The care plan reflects the wider needs of the child to ensure that the short breaks contribute to the development of each young person.

The short breaks service is only available at weekends and during school holidays: the rest of the time Morley House provides boarding accommodation for children attending the local complex needs school.

Short Breaks at Morley House are funded by Norfolk Children’s Services and consequently are only available to children within Norfolk.  Referrals are made by social workers in the children with disabilities teams.

Nelson Lodge

Nelson Lodge is a six bedded short stay residential short breaks centre in Long Stratton, South Norfolk. Nelson Lodge caters for school age children with autistic spectrum disorders or other learning disabilities including associated physical disabilities and challenging behaviours.

The centre offers enjoyable breaks for children and much needed support to families. Whilst the school holidays tend to be the busiest times, the centre is full during term times too with children travelling to and from school and staying at weekends.

Opened in 2004, this purpose built centre is well equipped with a wonderful 'sensory room', and range of play equipment – including a Wii.   Outside there is a good sized garden with play equipment to enable the children to enjoy stimulating play in the fresh air.

For the time that the children receive our service, Nelson Lodge is part of the family network; consequently staff work closely with parents/carers, siblings and all the professionals involved.  It is an immense privilege to be entrusted with the care of someone’s child; our aims therefore reflect this:

To provide the best possible care for the child/young person that reflects their need and individual preferences

To create a safe, supporting, nurturing and stimulating environment

To enable the child/young person to enjoy social interaction with peers and to access enriching experiences that may be difficult for families to provide

To work closely with parents/ carers to ensure that we provide care in the way that they want and to develop relationships that foster trust

To ensure that we manage behaviour and generally work in ways that are consistent with home and school

To help the child/young person to reach their potential, developing their independence and the social skills that will help them in adult life

The range of activities undertaken by the children is ever widening and reflects our wish to ensure that the children are actively involved in society.

Nelson Lodge was set up in partnership with the Norfolk Autistic Society, Orwell Housing, Norfolk County Council Social Services and South Norfolk District Council. Break is responsible for the management of the on-site project, with revenue funding for Nelson Lodge being met by Norfolk Children's Services.

Nelson Lodge is only available to children living in Norfolk.  All referrals must come through social workers in the children with disabilities teams.  This service currently has a waiting list.
